He said "trick!" It's a trick!
Refers to the pseudo-scandal created in November 2009 by anti-science hackers who hacked the computers at the Climatic Research Unit of East Anglia University. Sifting through thousands of emails, they found one instance of the words "trick" and "hide" used to describe various statistical techniques, and proclaimed this proof of a conspiracy.
Subsequently, six independent scientific committees investigated the allegations and published reports, finding no evidence of fraud or scientific misconduct. But the hacking ploy and surrounding publicity succeeding in sowing seeds of doubt about climate science among some sectors of the public.
